no speakers installed?

i just reformatted my computer. i have downloaded the realtek Avance audio 97 codec from here

and i have installed it. i restarted and still, no sound. when i try to run a sound file it says "cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding"

when i go to the sound options, here is what i get:

i can hear a beep through the speakers though whenever an error pops up, i know its through the speakers because the beep gets louder and softer when i turn the volume knob on the speaker.

 

It's definitely a driver problem. Try www.driverguide.com for the drivers, might help.

 

do you have any intel chipset mobo CD disk? You can get driver from them or install winXP sp2 for drivers

 

When i bought my computer, it didnt come with any CD unfortunately. i installed SP2 last night, still doesnt seem to be working. would i have to uninstall and then reinstall? if so how would i go about doing this?

thats a very interesting site, can you help me with what i should search for? i filtered "any company; sound card; windows xp; all drivers" and put "avance" in the search area, im not sure if this is what i am supposed to do because it bring up a TON of different drivers. any and all help is greatly appreciated.

do you have mobo driver disk? if not you can Dl from Intel webside for AC97 sound driver base on model intel845
