No taskbar, cpy/pst, etc.....

Hello- After many hours of trying, I need help-

I wanted to stop the password box on startup from appearing. I did but now-


-No taskbar/start button
-icons will not move
-some programs will not run- xsetup, antispyware, sys restore
-in services, extended tab is blank, standard tab will not show properties.
-user accounts window is blank like this:

I have tried their suggestions.
-long boot time
-safe mode does not help

I have run spybot, ad aware, registry mechanic, avg free, 2 online scans, no luck.

-I may have disabled secondary logon?
-I may have changed something in 'change the way users logon'? (which is no longer visible)
So I cannot even get into the areas I was working in before. Sys restore says 'system restore cannot restore your computer.'

What procedure did you use to do this?

 

In user accounts I don't really remember what I did, as I have done so many things to try and fix it. In services, I think I disabled secondary logon, but in the serviced window I can get to, it cannot start the service. I don't know if that's related or not, though. It might be since the user window is empty.

 

OK, now the taskbar suddenly will let me raise it up to be seefor some reason, but all other problems still exist.

 

OK, start with this first:

Start -> Run

type sfc /scannow

OK

This will replace any missing system files. WARNING: You may need to run Windows Update after you run this command.

 

OK-done. Restarted, taskbar still with me but all other problems still here.

3 more symptoms if it helps,

- No volume icon on the taskbar, sound properties have all settings greyed out and says 'no audio device', yet the speakers play fine.

- Also, minimized windows no longer minimize into the taskbar but on top of it, so open windows are not visible with one open.

- Clicking a hyperlink on or offline may or may not do anything.

Windows update page is still blank weather I click it on the start menu or at the site itself.

Post a HijackThis Log as an ATTACHMENT.

 

windows explorer and dr watson encountered a problem- I clicked OK but had to use task manager to get dr waston to close. the only thing left was the background. So I restarted, now the taskbar is once again gone. Hijack log coming.......

 

I cannot find any browse button to post the attachment.. Go advanced or after clicking post reply.

 

Well, I guess I can't get the attachment on here, I tried. I was going to post it on my webspace with a link, but cannot because I have no paste or dragging for icons. I am able to paste the log in here if there is no way for me to see a browse button for an attachment here. Mayby the feature is not enabled for my user account with Major Geeks?

 

When you click-on the Manage Attachments button you should get a new window.

Do this instead:

Download and install Process Explorer.

After you have it installed, run the program;

Click-on File

Select Save as

Save the file to My Documents.

Post the report as an attachment if possible, if not Copy & Paste the report into your post.

 

I would be able to copy and paste the hijack log. I'm at work now and I can see the manage attachments button here. I'll see if it has decided to appear for me at home tonight, it was not there. Thanks.

 

This is a good tool to repair taskbar problems.
Choose
1. notification area > missing icons>check>Apply
2.taskbar problems>minimized programs missing>fix

For sound icon
control panel>sound>place volume icon in taskbar

 

For browsing problems reinstall internet explorer
run>rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf
or go to windows\inf\ie.inf rightclick install

 

DON'T Copy & Paste a HJT log into your reply.

 

Ok- put the hjt log on a cd at lunch and brought it to work- Hopefully you'll see the attachment here! I can do the other things later.

Ok I have to copy and paste the process explorer. The manage attachments button showed up at work, but here at home It is not there. I guess that's another symptom!

As far as Taskbar plus, no changes will work, the error message is always 'runtime error 462- the remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable'.

 

Sorry, I took so long in getting bask to you. I see nothnig out of the ordinary in either of your logs. I not sure what the problem is, a repair install may be in order.

Anyone else have any ideas?
