    Hello all,
I have a HP deskjet 3900 series printer, it is installed, I have power, and it appears in the printers and faxes folder as ready, however, I am unable to print,

In the services tab, upon checking , I am seeing that the computer is unable to
establish a two way connection with the device.
I have removed, reinstalled software, but with the same result.

I have also noticed in the printer icon that there is a document named serial number job, i tried to delete it , but it is taking forever.

What I have done so far
I checked printer USB port by plugging in a flash drive ;flash drive works
    I have changed USB cable
I have uninstalled drivers in device manager and shut down
    Re booted
Removed and Re- installed HP deskjet from CD
    All with the same result
    Please help!

    Greetings, evdouser...

What operating system are you running? Need to make sure that the printer is compatible with your OS version...

That 'serial number job' is bothering me - is it there with the printer uninstalled? If so, you might need to concentrate on getting rid of it before installing the printer...

Thank you Caliban for responding...i'am operating on Windows XP Professional.
I restarted the spooler services to get rid of the serial number job, and reinstalled ..but with no luck..the thing is it was working fine before

If it was working fine before, then it must not be an OS compatibility problem, unless some service pack or update installation has broken something...

Couple of things you might try:

Check the HP site for any updated drivers (I've had to do this several times with the F-4xxx all-in-ones, although that was usually Vista-related)...

Roll back to any pre-service pack or critical update with the XP, at least for troubleshooting purposes...

Let us know how it's going...

I am running mac os 10.4.11 and are trying to share a lexmark x4975 across parallels.. it works on the PC side and not on the mac side. it keeps telling me cannot open a printer connection. does it have something to do with the printer being wi-fi? tried to add printer with IP address and it doesnt work.i am sick of transfering files to the PC side and having to print from there
