I have a HP vs15 monitor that keeps saying its going to sleep when ever you turn on the computer. i never get any video from computer, always states that its going to sleep then the power light turns amber. monitor menu is not able to come up. This is what i've tried so far: connected it to three different computers all with same result. swapped out VGA cables, same thing. (monitor only has VGA input) computers tried on had vista, xp and ubuntu. tried to set up monitor as a second display, couldn't get any video on it. windows showed a new monitor in device manager connected but it never came up on display settings. it did listed it in nvidia control panel but only option was to set it as primary display, which it wouldn't switch to. And here is the biggest thing that ticks me off, i connected a xbox 360 with a vga cable and it was able to display the xbox 360!!! i pulled up the monitor menu and reset it to factory settings. connected it to a computer, same thing display going to sleep. i dont get why the 360 is able to get video to display but not pc's. Any suggestion would be great. Thanks.

Could it be a simple 'power saving mode' issue within windows?

Try turning off Power Saving Mode all together?

For XP, right click Desktop - Properties - Screen Saver - Power button. Set 'Turn Off Monitor' to Never and then Apply & OK.

For Vista, right click desktop - personalize - screen saver - change power settings - choose when to turn off display.......you get the drift!

If it had been just your computer where this was happening I would bet on a computer problem , but you indicated that you placed it on several computers with the same results which makes me believe it's the monitor. Is this a new monitor ? you may want to consider contacting hp for a replacement. I checked HP support site and this is the only article I could find with similar problem with what you are experiencing...http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00061509&dlc=en&product=459838. If you hang on maybe someone else has a solution or a fix for you to try..
