No web-based sound (IE or Firefox) but software (WMP, iTunes etc) work fine

Title pretty much sums it up - performed a reinstall a couple of weeks back and only just tried getting on Youtube to see something and discovered I have no sound playback. It's bizarre because I've been playing through iTunes almost every day without a problem.

Naturally I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling sound drivers but to no such luck.

Any ideas what could be the cause?

In FF, click on Tools then Options and click on the Content icon. At the bottom File types, click on the manage button and see how your audio files are supposed to be played.
Then in the address bar, click about: plugins (there isn't a space between : and p but when I type it without the space, a smilie appears) and see if that app is enabled.

Thanks for that but I'm not too sure what the settings should be set to!

I have Quicktime and WMP set as the defaults for most actions.
