No wifi after reinstalling winxp on Dell Inspiron 6000

Hi!

I reinstalled windows xp on my Dell Inspiron 6000 and as a result I was missing a bunch of drivers. So I found this thread and downloaded the drivers suggested there. This lead me to two problems:

1. The video driver could not be installed. It said it needed some files to be installed before that...
2. My wireless connection still does not work. Now it seems to have found my wireless hardware, but when I type in the password it will only accept numbers, not letters. My password is mostly letters and cannot be changed.

I really hope someone can help me. I am really bad at these things. If I did not give you guys enough information, please ask.

Was it a "Full Package" or an OEM disk? My OEM Win XP Pro SPK3 disk comes complete wih network and video drivers. Also did you check support.microsoft.com

 

The best way to find the correct drivers is going to Dell's website and searching using the service code on the back of your PC.

* Be sure to filter the list of drivers to only your version of Windows.

* If more than one brand of driver is listed (Realtek, Intel, etc.) download each and all unless you're sure of the brand of card installed. It's trial and error; a "wrong" driver generally won't load if it can't find the correct hardware installed.

* Tip: You may want to save the downloaded drivers to a USB drive or CD just in case you have to reload XP in the future.
