No Wifi

My wife's laptop , Windows 10, has lost its internet WiFi connection in our home (ATT Uverse). I'm certain it's the laptop as my Ipad has no WiFi internet problem using the same modem. It has been fine for years despite the forced upgrade to Win 10. I've rebooted the comp and modem but no luck. I received 2 different error messages when running the troubleshooters which state:

1) wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration and,
2) DNS server problem

I did notice when checking the IP address that the box was blank. Could something have cleared it? Any help would be appreciated.

 

On the laptop in question an initial standard troubleshooting step is to check the drivers for WiFi are fully up to date on that system. Either the system manufacturer's website or the WiFi adaptor developer's website.

Select the following:
Obtain an IP address automatically
Obtain DNS server address automatically

 

It's a laptop so connect it to the router directly with an Ethernet cable.

 

Got it. Just connected the Ethernet cable and gained access to the internet. Then disconnected the cable and problem resolved as internet connection stayed. Rebooted w/o cable and all is fine. That's all I did...no driver updates or anything else. What do you suppose resolved the problem? Again, many thanks, Max. You da man!

 

Just connecting it by wire could have achieved the same as the suggestions Eldon made.
