no Windows sounds

Hello, For the last 3 or 4 days I've had no Windows start up or shut down music , Windows notification sounds or sound from the internet. It plays movies, music and games with sound but not Windows games, like Solitaire etc. I recently ran SFC/scannow with the Windows disc from command prompt, could this be the problem? I tried re-installing my sound card drivers but that didn't help.

Have you checked:

Control Panel >> Sounds and Audio Devices

On the Volume tab be sure "mute" is unchecked

On the "Sounds" tab be sure "Sound Scheme" is not set to No sound, or none.

 

If all the items in the Control Panel >> Sounds and audio devices check out OK, try setting up a new user account and see if the sounds work from the new account.

If the sounds now work from the new account, transfer files from the old account to the new.

Thanks for getting back to me, I had a look at my sound settings, everything seems to be ok. I can get sound from DVD/CD's and games but not any Windows sounds. I found someone with the same problem at Doom9, they got it sorted with a registry script //forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=115098 , but I've no idea how to use it, does anyone know what to do with this? I joined Doom9 but I've got to wait 5 days before I can post anything. any help with this would be great.
