Non-malware issue blocking normal boot.

So i've been stuck using safe mode with net for a few weeks now. Am unable to boot in normal mode as it freezes either immediately after desktop load or as soon as i click ANYTHING. Safe mode is running normal.

I went through the Malware Removal Guide very thoroughly and have run all the anti-malware/spyware and anti-virus scans i can imagine. Nothing has come up on any of them at anytime. They also run automatically and I have had uptodate protection the whole time. My thread with logs for these progs is here if you are interested.

The fans are running a bit high even when in safe mode and the computer is not in use (lid closed). So I though it might be a hardware overheating issue, but that's not something I can really diag. I took the laptop completely apart, checking various components, but everything seems fine.

The only hardware issue i have observed is that the battery is shot, and only charges to around ~35%.

I'm pretty sure there were no new software changes when this started, so I'm not really sure where to start looking. I'm closely nearing an overwhelming urge to reformat, because this is driving me insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since it doesn't happen in safe mode, this does indicate a software problem. Something is loading in normal mode is freezing the computer.
Normally this is not the best way to do things but we'll fix it later, after we've figured out what is causing the freeze.
In safe mode, open msconfig, click on the startup tab and disable everything but your antivirus.
Close the box, reboot and try normal mode. Does it work? If so, it is some program. If not, it could be a driver loading.

I have tried to reboot in normal with everything disabled before and it didnt work. The only thing I had enabled was a Synaptic Point Driver. After disabling this also, it booted in normal for a few minutes...which was much longer than before, but ended up crashing after getting into Firefox. The program stops responding and nothing else can be accessed. Freezes everything except for the mouse. I click on the start icon and it stays pressed in. No go so far.

Then it could well be a bad driver. Safe mode doesn't load your video driver, among other things.

Boot again in normal mode; don't launch FF. See, if possible what video driver you are using.
Control Panel, System, Display adapters, right click select properties then the driver tab.

The driver is a NVIDIA driver, dated 1-30-2009, version: 7.15.11.7948, and is not digitally signed. I believe I might have updated the factory driver which i think was a year or two older.
Before this whole problem, I did get glitches with this driver; the screen would blackout for a few seconds and then come back on with a bubble stating that there was a driver error. I do notice that the area where the graphics card is gets extremely hot, even when in safe mode with the lid closed and nothing running.

I can boot in normal mode for a max of maybe 2min. I'm wondering if it can be overheating-based, as I can boot in normal for maybe 2min after the computer has been shut down for a while and is cold. When I try to boot in normal after the computer has been in safe mode it freezes much faster at ~20sec.

    can you try the following:

msconfig again: startup tab, disable EVERYTHING.

now go into the "Services" tab, VERY IMPORTANT put a checkmark in "Hide all microsoft services" and then click "Disable All".

Try rebooting into normal mode now. I don't think it's a heating issue if safe mode is running normally and you don't get any freezes while in safe mode ever.

Did as advised...no change. Still freezes up after a minute or so.
