Now everytime I tried to access anything in my Control Panel it says C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found???? Arrrrrgghh, I think this may be the fact because I kinda Erased my rundll file??? hehe...yeah I know I messed up, how do i get it back? I got Norton AntiVirus 2009, but can't run it...just says Error?? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in Advance

Wait, that's not working. I followed the guide to downloading the appropriate programs, but I can't run them. I wrote in my first post, I get the prompt: C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found, then it pops up a page with a few programs and it asks which program to use to open said exe. file. I think I meesed something up when i was screwing around in my C:/ drive. I accidentally erased an rundll.exe file and seems to have become a problem since then....:crybaby

Go into the recovery console and expand -r <pathto>\RUNDLL32.EX_ %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe
Replace <pathto> with the actual path.

Go to... Start, Run type msconfig, select General tab, click expand File, Type rundll32.exe in the "file to restore."
then C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL in the "restore from"
    then C:\WINDOWS "save file in."
    then last expand.

    hope this works :)

That's why I said to use the recovery console. Seeing as you're not experienced with it why not try a repair install.
Boot off your Windows CD. When you get to the screen that shows your drives/partitions, highlight the drive Windows is on and press R to repair. It will run setup again but keep your data and programs intact.

Uhhh, sorry to be a pain in the ***...but I don't have the OS disc. Xp was preloaded before I got the PC. Any other way?

Nope. Without a CD you cant install rundll32. Do you have a factory recovery partition that reinstalls the operating system? There might be a prompt for it when you first boot up.

Hi Halorockone, Take a look at this thread over at lavasoft forums --> http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=3156

I would read all the posts but pay particular attention from post #12 onwards as the first 11 dont really apply to you directly but a few things get pointed out about when to restart etc.

My experience with nero is that to me at least it is a freaken virus its that invasive and hard to get rid of...especially if you dont know that you can download an extra tool to help clean out the files.

Bought a DVD few years back and had been warned not to use nero but thought oh it came with the dvd itl be fine...B.S, the worst part was it killed my virtual drives, damon tools and Fantom CD, and then made it exceedingly hard to remove a neferious piece of software suite called InCd which I thought i hadnt installed in the original installation..Good grief...Die Nero:boxing.

A bit of regediting a few scans through the system got rid of it but what a load of B.S - legit software to screw up your system without any warning about using emulation software.

    Anyway sorry for the rant...

Bit of open slather on the O.S aye...well if your technically minded you could try the option of backing up your system (especially your drivers) and a doing a repair install...anything else may take days of research and end up saying the same thing.

If you have a name brand like a dell packard bell or compaq there maybe a hidden partition already on the Harddrive and can do a restore via this, these normally take around 40mins or so for an XP system.

Good luck with a solution, open slather might not be the ideal, but it can be effective..better than having something thats not working.

See if a restore point will help first though if you have one available, and havent already tried this.

    Good luck:)
