North Bridge fan: Weird noise

Recently my NB fan makes a weird noise like a cicada or a cricket. I dont know whats wrong with it. Any ideas?

May need to replace the bearings (If this is possible) Something could be a little loose in it...it may just be getting old...Eventually what will probably happen is it will die all together, but if you can replace the bearings in the fan, then that should do the trick.

Check for excess dust build up, as said above it sounds as if its getting old ( does it sound worse at startup and ease a bit or just keep fluctuating in pitch ), but not even worth attempting to change bearings, easier to buy a new one... generally they are 40mm in size but measure it and then hunt for one at local or favoured online retailer.

Happened to me on a motherboard, cleaned it from dust but was destined to fail at some point so well worth changing.

Couldn't I just take the power off from the NB fan? and save the trouble of buying a new one cause I wouldnt know where to find one or which one to buy for that matter.

bad move dude... dont remove the NB fan
if you do you risk overheating and frying your motherboard
the northbridge chip can be very sensitive to heat (as are most mobo chips)
so killing any cooling you have is a bad idea
clean the fan first, that should at least give you a few more months to find a replacement
