Northbridge Fan Switches itself off

I just bought a shiny new GA-8N-SLI Royal mobo, now i use an Asus Ice Star CPU Cooler which has a 3pin board connector, the rpm is controlled manually, and there is a NB fan with mobo connection, when i install easytune5 of the CD to monitor temps it switches this NB fan off!!!! any ideas

 

Does it run at any time.

 

yes it needs to run, this NorthBridge processor gets too hot without it (as i found out with the last board that blew over 190?C) replaced the board and it runs fine and im afraid to install easytune to monitor temps incase it switches off again, its shorting out for some reason could it be smartfan in bios? or the fact my CPU is only 3pin and its looking for the 4th to control speeds of fan

 

Well I really dont know that much about the software in question but if its running it wont hurt to just run always.

 

Is it a multi speed fan never heard of that before.

 

The CPU fan is fine its controlled thru a front mounted resistor that allows me to slowdown/speedup the rpm (1000-4000rpm) to help keep it cool when gaming, the NB CPU which is the one in question this fan is a constant 2300rpm (ish) speed, now easytune is a mobo monitoring software for temps and fan speed that came with the board, maybe i should just reinstall easytune and hope it doesnt cut that NB fan out again

 

Do you need easytune that is does the fan run without it if so the temp is the big thing so until you can discover the problem will the fan run without it

 

yeah it runs without m8, and ive used sandra to check the temps in windows and there fine, just baffles me and id like to understand what caused it in the first place. cheers bud

 

I can understand the concern I have burned up a mb before had a spare thank god but it happens had incorrect air flow throught the case but fixed that. Now when I build pcs I think fans fans fans all the better to cool them with. Wish I could be more help on the fan issue but I have never come across the issue myself so I have no insight : ( but I hope you get the problem solved lots of luck.
