I was using Norton Internet Security 2005 and my subscription for LiveUpdate was expired. I logged on to renew and for $10 more, I could download the new 2006 version. Big mistake. My computer was locked up. I got my money back from Symantec and asked me to delete the program. It took help from Symantec to get it uninstalled.

I need help cleaning this mess up. I still cannot get my computer running back to top speed. I forgot how to set a "hijack this" log to you.

Please refresh my memory, or lead me to another posting with someone who has the same problem.

    Thanks,
    SKPARK

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Please provide more information like what operating system you are using, and exactly what the computer is doing etc?

    Hi Imsomniac,

Thanks for the quick response. Here are my list of woes.

    I currently have Windows XP.

My identity for XP is the administrator.
I have two teenagers that have their identities, but cannot get them to load up since the Norton 2006 download. (They are using mine until we clear this up)

It takes ten full minutes to get my desktop to load.
I am getting a error message upon startup. missing the bridge.dll
When I click the start button to go to a program, it take about three minutes to show the start menu. Then it takes another three minutes to get to the program I want to run.

Once I get the program going, it takes another five minutes to get it going.

I get alot of "chores" done around the house while waiting for the next attempt to get something done on the computer.

Scanning is also taking five minutes to work.

All programs are at a stand-still.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Bridge.dll is related to Spyware.

One quick thing to try is to go to Start, run and type in msconfig then OK.

In the startup tab, see if you can find the culprit and uncheck it.

bridge.dll is part of winfavorites, so see if that or similar is listed.

Whether that works or not, I suggest you pay a visit to the SPYWARE.

    Happy New Year, Insomniac!

I am back and have done some more snooping on my pc.
I realized that the new Norton asked me to remove the spyware shown on their scanned screen.
I did not recognize the programs. I deleted.
It apparently was Ad-aware, Webroot SpySweeper, and Spybot.

I reloaded these three programs and ran all scans. These three scans found lots of junk.
Webroot found a Piper Trojan and an IE hijacker that was removed.

My computer is still running VERY slow. It still takes five minutes to open each program.
I went to the startup menu to look for the bridge.dll and found these.

    QAgent - Quicken?

    DSentry
    tfswctrl
    BCMSMMSG

    qttask
    realsched
    sgtray

The others were HP programs that are associated with my printer.

So, let me know if there is anything else I can try. I am not loading the Christmas goodies until I can clean this up.

Hope you had a great holiday.
