Norton Antivirus freezes Internet login

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 with Talktalk broadband.
While trying to log on to the Internet, the PC freezes.
I've noticed that the Norton AntiVirus Protection icon shows as disabled when this happens despite the settings being set to enable it at boot-up.
If I open the AV software and click on various things then eventually the Dial up pops up and I can then log on.
I can't find a way of disabling Nortons to prove that it is causing the problem.
Any ideas?:confused

 

I had a Dell Dimensions Laptop & could not get online with Norton's AntiVirus installed. It came pre-installed. You will have to get rid of Norton's via the following Major Geeks tool: http://Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT)
If this link doesn't work, go to Major Geeks Home Page & click on Anti-Virus in the panel of Left Side of page. Scroll down to Norton's Removal Tool & click on it, install it, & run it. Geeks has plenty of free Anti-Viruses you can download. AVG is my personal favorite! Norton's can be very "system hungry" anyway, & can slow your PC down considerably...I say this from personal experience. Good Luck! Keep us posted on your progress.

Before uninstalling Nortons, download a new AV

Plenty of good freeware suggestions to be found at How to Protect yourself from malware!

I downloaded AVG and the Norton Uninstaller then got rid of Nortons for good.
Everything is now ok :clap
