Hello all, I'm new around here and looking for some help. I've been getting lots of error messages lately and lots of programs aren't working. But I want to start with my Anti-Virus soft wear. It says in Norton that my Auto-Protect is turned off, which it never was before, it was always on from start up. I've tried turning it on from the System Status tab and from the Options tab but every time I try to I get an error message; looks like this

    Internet Explorer Script Error

An error has occurred on this page:

    Line:887
    Char:5
    Error: Unspecified Error
    Code:0
    URL:res//C:\Progra~1\Norton~1NANU1.dll/navstats.htm

    Then at the bottom

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? Y/N

Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Might try checking your browser settings. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Security Tab. Click on each icon from left to right & they should be...MEDIUM...MEDIUM LOW....LOW....HIGH. Click on Privacy Tab & it should be MEDIUM. Click on Advanced Tab & set to DEFAULT.

If this doesn't work, it may mean an uninstall & reinstall, if you have the CD. There is a way you have to uninstall NAV or it will get messed up on you.

ONLY attempt this as a last resort & if you have the installation CD. If it is a later version, do a Google for that version.

If you can R/clk the NAV tray icon & "Open Norton Antivirus" & get into options (Which I understand you tried), you can set the auto update there.

    Hope this helps some.

    Hawk,

Thanks man I'll try this stuff out. I can't even get into Tools, Internet Options; it says because of restrictions I can't view the Internet Options and to contact the system administrator but I'm the system administrator, it's my home computer!! I'm running WinXP.
    What do you think?

    Thanks

Have you ran a virus scan? Some viruses will disable your AV, if your virus scan won't work, this very likely. If your scan fails, and a reinstall doesn't fix the problem, read and follow the directions in this link in the spyware forum http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Might try this. Go to Start/Control Panel/Internet Options & try setting them in there.

    Just a thought.

are you absolutely sure that your account has administrative privileges?

I'm assuming that I have administrator privileges. It's my computer I'm the only one who uses it. I can I not be considered the administrator?

    Ideas?

    Thanks
