I'm a little hesitant in paying the subscription fee since I think Norton AV 2005 will be hitting the market soon. Is there a difference between the chronologically different programs? Does it matter if I have Norton AV 2004 when I subscribe anyways? Should I waste more money on Norton AV 2005? Should I shutup :)?

Why waste your money on Norton at all? NOD32 is the top-rated antivirus if you're willing to pay. Avast! and AVG both have free and professional versions of their antivirus and AntiVir Personal is a good free antivirus also. You can find them here at MG: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?id=29&sort=7

Are you sure they're better? I'm a victim to brand-name hype sometimes. Will it make a difference?

    Save your money!

Norton = bloated, lot's of fluff, many free one's do better job and use less resourses.

Interesting... I think I'll look into it. Does anybody know if the subscription to Norton AV 2004 will keep me up to date anyways?

the subscription will let you keep updating itself as long as your license doesn't expire.

And as I have said in previous posts (that seem to get buried to extinction), the best antivirus is actually your own brain. As long as you're knowledgeable about viruses, where they come from, and how to avoid them, then odds are, you'll probably never end up testing the capabilities of any antivirus software. But it's a good idea to have one handy in the first place. You never know when something may sneak in.

Once again, thank you strogg. I know what processes are running and intend to keep it that way. AV progs are usually helpful, but you're definitely right. The best antivirus is your brain.

    I'd Vote for NOD32 also.

    Uses less memory than Norton
    Uses less CPU than Norton
Has a better detection rate than Norton
Scans about 5 times faster than Norton
Doesnt load up a million and one services and bloat like Norton
Gets multiple updates per day, where-as live update gives you maybe 2 or 3 a week.
