you know, im trying to research the same thing . . . i want great solid virus protection and also a grip of utilities that can protect, clean, and stabilize my computer -

here are my findings so far after an extensive 4 day research binge . . .

Antivirus - go with Norton 2005 - seems to be the best of the best

also im adding in iolo's system mechanic 5 - i downloaded the 30 day trial version and im buying it for sure now, i suggest you do the same . . . if the personal firewall and privacy / child safe settings are what you want as well for the family - get the professional edition - seems to be the conensus as to what is a REALLY legit program - but the regular system mechanic 5 is GREAT so far for me - dramatically improved my system performance on a crappy 233mhz machine as im waiting for my new laptop (see below) after i ran all its tricks . . . wow, just wow - it also has helped y restoration of y roommates former paperwight - see my thread below . . anyway good luck and let me know if i can answer anything else for you as im looking into all of this right now

Thx for the reply.... will look into it. :)
However you didn't say which software to go with ?
I have NIS (norton internet security) '03 but was wondering if Antivirus'05 was better.

    Phillie Phan said this
"As far as AV goes, there are some Free AV products here at MGs that are comparable to or better than Norton - AVAST, AVG, etc. . . You should inquire in the Software Forum as to how they stack up. "

So for Antivirus I may go the MG route and go with NIS '05.

I'm a bit new to all this. Thats all.

I am also monitoring your ADWARE thread for good answers...
    Hope you get some :)

You might want to do a little more research before installing any Norton product. The have a tendency to cause more trouble than they prevent. And if you ever decide to uninstall anything by Norton, you life's troubles are just beginning.

Do a search here at MajorGeeks; there are dozens of threads of Norton-related problems.

If you are looking for a reliable antivirus program, I'd recommend Avast for a freebie and Nod32 for fee-based.
