I installed NIS2005 and it started freezing my PC, so i unninstalled it and was looking for some alternatives. I already had antivir running with it and updated it, then i got Sygate firewall Pro. I've been using NIS since the 2003 version, and i dont feel quite "protected" with this programs, should i not?

You had NIS and AntiVir installed and live scanning at the same time? if so it may explain the freezes as two AVs live scanning dont normally play together well, have one of them set to not background ( live scan ) or only install 1 AV program.

Plus if I read right you had NIS which has a firewall built in and Sygate firewall runningta the same time, they will not play nicely together either.... only have 1 firewall and 1 AV installed at once, otherwise you will have two applications trying to do the same job at same time, which can lead to problems.

Sad thing about NIS is that they have tried to bundle too much into one package which can on some systems lead to major slowdowns ( McAfee are the same with latest packages ) if they just stuck to AV they are good as in there Enterprise AV versions.

i only had NIS and antivur, i installed sygate after. my pc didnt just slow down, it totally froze (had to reboot) this never happened when i had nis03 and antivir. Since iinstalled NIS05 (lastnight), the crashes started, 4-5-6 times, got tired of it and uninstalled, now everything seems to be running fine and smoother.

however, i did the sygate security tests and i have a couple closed, but not stealth ports, not sure about this, but should i take that into consideration? or im safe.

As was said, Norton products do not play well with most anything. I learned the hard way and now have written Norton off as far as my computers are concerned. Anyway, with all the free programs out there, I see no need to purch AV or FW software. However If I were to purch anything I would consider PC_cillin Security. It seems to ignore all other AV etc products and coisxists well
