My friend, wants me to uninstall Norton Internet Security 2004 and install 2005, I managed to unistall 2004, but i am experiencing a weird problem

When i insert the Install Disk, the Auto play screen comes up, so i click Install Norton Internet Security 2005, and after that the auto play screen closes and then nothing happens (hint i Cant Install the Darn Thing)

I tried installing it on my Computer and it works fine, after i click Install Norton Internet Security 2005 the install process begins.

I also tried using the older Norton Internet Security 2004 Install CD and that worked fine on my Friends Computer also.
So what i dont understand is why doesnt the Norton Internet Security 2005 CD not work.

I have a feeling that some virus spyware thing is causing this because, i opened up Windows Task Manager while trying to install it, and when i insert the CD the CDSTART.EXE file is shown (CDSTART.EXE=Auto PLay Screen). Then When i Click Install Norton Internet Security 2005, I see SYMSETUP.EXE in the Processes tab of Windows Task Manager for about 5 seconds or less and then it goes away. (SYMSETUP.EXE=Setup for NortonInsternet Security 2005)

Should i Post a HJT Log
    NEED HELP!!!!!

you may have to remove all the remnants of 2004 before you can install 2005, norton products are IMO buggy, I have had a lot of problems with them in the past, as a matter of fact I purchased NIS 2005 and uninstalled it I found it just slowed down my computer way too much for what it did.
knowing symantec they probably have a tool you can download to remove all of NIS 2004, just go to thier website and check out thier support pages.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the Suggestio Mellow Man, but i have done that already, and that is how i removed NIS 2004 (add/remove programs did not work) so I'm not really sure what the deal is.

I was thinking of Reinstalling NIS 2004, and unistalling it the legitimate way (add/remove programs) and then seeing if it worked (the reason why it didnt work before is because, my friend accidently enabled acounts and when i Went the unistall it I couldnt log into the supervisro account because my friend never made a password for it and it wasnt on the drop down list for Accounts)

AS i said before, i have already used those removal instructions, infact those very same ones,

I dont think the problem is so much the uninstallation of NIS 2004 (i uninstalled it already) i think the problem is with Installing NIS 2005, cause thats what I can't do.

Thanks for the help though I appreaciate it

OK, I misunderstood what you were saying there. I thought add/remove was all you had tried Still checking for you.

Going to be off for awhile, try this:

Delete all files in the Windows Temporary folder
Temporary files and folders are created when you install programs and during normal Windows operation. All Symantec products use the temporary folder during the installation process. Too many files in the Windows Temporary folder can cause the installation to fail.

    Exit all programs.
    1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run
    2. Type the following:

    %temp%

    3. Click OK. The Temp folder for the currently logged-on user opens in Windows Explorer.
    4. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
    5. Press Delete.
    6. Click Yes if you are asked to confirm the deletion.

    Now try the installation.

    No such luck Steve,

I removed the files fro mthe temp folder
I also removed files from the prefetch folder and i ran ccleaner

I still have the same problem

Im seriously considering installing NIS 2004 Unistalling it and then installing NIS 2005

    Thanks for the help

PS still need a solution reinstalling NIS 2004 etc is a last resort
