Norton or Avast

Im having so many problems with norton on a clients computer and i just used avast wich worked fine,,,wiich would you rather use?

 

Regular updates, virus recovery database, p2p, IM and mail scanning, small footprint...

No chance of getting Norton on MY machine!

 

avast... i used to have norton and for some avast still says that it has detected norton, even though i have unisntalled avast and norton and reinstalled avast. i hate norton!!!

 

i use norton 2001 and never had one problem maybe i am just lucky not to have anyproblems with it hey dude i guess you got your internet working now

Avast is a very decent scanner though.

Norton anything

I had a major brain malfunction and put Norton System works 2003, without AV, back on. Just to use the windoctor. Well, my comp has been running without a reinstall for a year. And guess what. I just had to do a complete install. The kicker, every time I've had it on, it screwed something up. Why did I think it would be different this time?

 

AVG suits me fine.

 

I also use AVG, I didn't like avast's user interace, but that's probably just because I'm not used to it. I don't like the bloat of Norton.

 

I chose Avast because I was told AV was discontinuing support for the free version. I like it much better that Free Antivirus which was not as functional for me.

Anyway Avast already nabbed two viruses so i am happy with it.

 

Avast. Compresensive, not intrusive, downloads automatically in the background and is free. Norton leaves traces of itself all over your computer even after uninstall.

 

They will discontinue support for 6.0 December 31, but will offer 7.0 Free Version when the Beta testing is done. Not sure when that will happen. I had heard early November, but it's not out yet, I don't think.

 

I for once use Norton but I do recomend Avast for all those who don't have the money to get a decent anti-virus. Avast is pretty good but I wouldn't change it for my Norton.

Norton is way overrated and Symantec seems to have this Holier than thouh attitude when their products(for the most part) aren't that good, and to large
If you do elect to pay for an anti-virus software Avast pro is a little better than the free version, and the free version is more capable(IMO) than Norton.


To many times have I seen

its almost as if they have their hand in creating the problems, so they can come to the rescue. . . and sell more product.

kinda like the addictive crap the FDA lets McDonalds put in their product to keep people coming back,even though the food isn't all that good
people still go back, then they get fat, go to the Dr.,and then the drug companies get paid. . .its a vicious(sp) cycle. . . .

Finally kicked McAfee off my computer and it is much happier with Avast. Installed Avast on two friend's computers and it was only running on one for less than 30 minutes when it found a virus. The box comes up, telling what it found, asking you to delete, etc. and he said, "Wow, never had anything do that before!" (he had been running Norton before)

 

its all about the money. I have said it before. .I don't like the many. . .

 

So are you saying that you prefer NOD32 for antivirus? Or just for a shareware version? Not sure you have pointed out which one you use or not.

 

I really like Avast but I am using Norton Professional at the moment. The AVG antivirus doesn't work very well. I use to use AVG & ended up restoring my hard drive due to viruses that AVG didn't take care of.

 

I currently use AVG as well as other programs, Swatit, and AdAware. I have had nothing but bad luck using Norton. Just my two cents.

 

What about

Macafee over Avast? anyone? a firend just got a computer with macafee on it and it's anoying!! memory hogg !!

Just logged on tonight about 1:00. Avast informed me a new version was available, one click later = happy me.

 

If those were my only two options, Avast with out a doubt.

 

Avast wins handsdown for me. it updates automatically, runs well and unobtrusively, is trouble free, finds viruses and trojans and does not take over my computer like norton used to do. it is also versatile, reliable, well designed and free. Who could ask for anything more. I'm impressed!!! If you haven't already - try it now.

Avast, without a doubt. Updates regularly, (3 times this week?), catches everything.
My son has AVG on his, no problems there either.

I went from AVG to avast! a while ago, I found that AVG used to not catch viruses that I knew were there, let alone ones I didn't know were there. So I switched and avast! is absolutly great:

• Runs unobtrusivly
• Real-time scanner doesn't take up too much CPU time or memory
• Updates automatically
• It's VRDB is pretty damn awesome; saved me many times.
• You can pause/stop specific scanners for say games without letting your guard down completley.
• It's got a packet scanner("Network Sheild"), which doesn't conflict with my firewall.
• You can password the control panel.

 

I switched to avast yesterday or day before, because AVG 7.0 seemed to really slow down the system. I've been a fan of AVG for a while, and I hate to leave an old friend, but I gotta have something that works well.
