I am new and therefore ask for patience if I asked something that was discussed (I have not found any similar question) or am in the wrong forum.

I have downloaded the Norton Removal Tool to my desktop as speficied in the installation instructions. When I click on Run I get to sign "I accept" then I get a security check where I need to type the letters and numbers that appear. When I try to type the number or letter, I get "Incorrect match. Please try again".

I have tried and tried. Nothing works. Thanks for any advice.

I'd try using the MS Add/Remove programs method first, if it was my PC.

Go to Start--->Control Panel---->Add or Remove Programs.

Double click on that and a list pops up of programs installed on your PC that can be removed by this method.
Not all programs appear on this list, but that is another story.

Scroll down the list until you come across the Norton program you wish to uninstall.
Click on that program, and then on Remove, and follow any prompts.

Run CCleaner and Cleanup! after finishing the uninstall to catch up on any remnants left behind.

    Cleanup! http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4895.html
    CrapCleaner, aka CCleaner

Both are free. Each finds stuff the other misses.
Post back here if you still have problems. Bazza

Thanks for the reply but if that would be possible (removing it
through the add and remove program) I would not need the Norton
Removal Tool. When I try to remove it says I have to log in to remove
and I cannot log in I cannot remember the way to log in. So, how can I remove the Norton ? Is there any other way or am I stuck with it forever?

Yes, I know and I replied that I tried what you suggested but it cannot be done through the Add and Remove. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I didn't understand that you had already tried the method I suggested.

If that didn't work and the Norton removal tool method didn't work, you are probably only left with deleting the Norton and/or Symantec folders by right clicking and delete on the Folders.

    Then run CCleaner.

Then also run Registry Cleaner /s to get rid of all Norton and Symantec enties.
Use the Edit--->Find options and search for Norton and Symantec and delete those entries, as the final check.

BE VERY CAREFUL USING THIS METHOD and make sure that you have FULLY BACKED UP your system before you start the above method.

It can /may have devastating effects (believe me I know), and if you don't have a full backup then you are really in trouble. Bazza

PS: go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20 for various free programs that will help you get rid of Norton, but full backup first. Baz

This reply is to theefool: I am using Norton 2003, might that be the reason that
    I can't remove it?
