Norton System Doctor Startup Item after SymNRT

Back on 6/2, I removed Norton System Works using SymNRT -- I wasn't able to remove it using Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs because Norton would not uninstall due to an Error 1606 (I think) problem I was having at that point. The error 1606 problem has since been resolved but I am having one slight problem left over from Norton.

When I had Norton installed, I had Norton System Doctor start each time I booted. Now Norton is gone but I still occasionally get Statup Item - Norton System Doctor.LNK, Command - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Norton System Doctor.LNK enabled in my Startup List.

How can I eliminate this item and this entry in my Startup list?

I have RegSupreme Pro but have done nothing with it to specificaly deal with this entry - I have installed and run RegSupreme Pro/Registry Cleaner a few times since I removed Norton. Is there a component of RegSupreme I can use to deal with this problem?

Run regedit and look under the following keys for Norton System Doctor or anything Norton Related and in the right window pane and delete the key.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    I didn't have a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    I did find a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
nothing Norton related was there. Also nothing related to Norton was found in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

    Start -> Run
    type msconfig, hit enter
    Select Startup tab
Look for the entry that corresponds to Norton System Doctor, note the Registry Key, or if it is in Startup or Common Startup. If it is in the startup folder then delete the shortcut, otherwise use regedit to delete the registry key.

It is in Common Startup. Are you saying I can use REGEDIT to delete the registry key -- if so how?

Common Startup is located here C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. This is were all startup items common to all profiles are placed.

There was no enrty for Norton System Doctor there but I did a search on Common Startup and found an entry for Norton System Doctor.LNK.disabledCommon Startup in C:\WINDOWS\pss does this mean anything?

Disable it in MSCONFIG, after reboot run MSConfigCleanup to remove it from the Startup List in MSConfig.

Shadow, I just found something odd -- when I went to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup I saw no entries for anything Norton but I did a Start/Search on Norton System Doctor and the PC located 3 entries for Norton System Doctor.LNK.disabled in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Should I right-click and delete them from Search Results?

    Yes, do that.

Deleted the thre items mentioned, rebooted and I still have a disabled listing if Norton System Doctor in msconfig/startup. I should have mentioned the only other Norton System Doctor entry found during the search was Norton System Doctor.LNK.disabledCommon Startup in C:\WINDOWS\pss, is this the reason the entry cannot be removed from msconfig/startup? Should I delete that item?

Delete that one to, also disable it in MSConfig. Reboot, and run MSConfigCleanup to remove it from MSConfig.

All of that seems to have done the trick!! The only entries found by a Start/Search for Norton System Doctor are in the Recycle Bin and MSConfigCleanup eliminated the entry from the msconfig/startup list.

Thanks very much Shadow_Puter_Dude -- have a good night.
