Hi Geeks, I have a Broad question--I used to have performance problems with my Dell DIm P3 machine running XP while using Norton SW 2001 and 2002. There were too many varibles to list now. I am considering using Norton SW 2003 on my Dell DIm P4 1.3 machine. Is 2003 worth it? I know there are many tastes and this is a broad question but I am just looking for some reviews. I am using no AV right now. Just Nat Router and simple MS firewall. I use free Virus scans online from Mcafee and thats it. I am somewhat curious though about going back to using an AV possibly from Norton and utilizing some tools but I am always worried about apps and performance hits from this monster. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well, honestly I can't help you much about compabitility.

BUT, if you want to get Systemworks 2k3 PRO cheap.... you can get the OEM version at newegg.com which is where I got mine (for only $15-20).

Keep in mind (if you don't know OEM), you only get the disk itself and the serial #. You'll need to know how the programs runs already and stuff.

I like Systemworks 2k3, mainly because of:

    - System Doctor (which keeps track of my hdrive with SMART scan, memory)

-Win Doctor (clean up invalid links in registery and other stuff)

-NAV (you obviously need an antivirus program)

-Ghost 2k3 (the god of backing up. which I always make a backup image of my hdrive every 3 months or so.)

If you feel scared about using SystemWorks 2k3 AND dont want to spend $15-20 AND just really want to use an antivirus.

I suggest using AVG which can be found here on Majorgeek's download antivirus section.

WOW! I didn't know about this! I could've gotten it for only $05 if I had that $10 rebate before.. lol.

I'll be sure to do this next time I get something from Newegg.

Yeah, the damn thing works or I wouldnt pimp it :) I used it myself when I wanted a new processor a while back and got a 2400+ for 95 bucks OEM for my wifes machine. Ended up at NewEgg, but was able to compare prices from all vendors, oem, warranties , etc.

    Thanks for your support too!

I too use Norton products and hav sonsistently purchased the upgrade package for SystemWorks for a number of years now and have upgrade to SW 2003.

SW 2003 is very much like its predecessor SW 2002 one of the options/tools that I miss though was the CNET Catchup utility which was discontinued late 2002.

I personally can't recommend the GoBack feature high enough and it has save my machine from lengthy recoverys a number of times, it is an excellent tool. With SW 2003 I can obtain the full edition of Goback at a discount rate - haven't done so since the basic version is good enough.

You may already have found this out but SW 2001 does not support Win XP. Not sure re: SW2002 but it may not either unless you have release #2 of Win XP.
There is a chart at Symantec's website in their knowledge base section. It's kinda hard to find though.
    Hope this helps.
