Norton Wont Go

i uninstalled norton utilities about two months ago,yet my recycle bin icon on my desktop still says "norton protected recycle bin".i have searched all over my computer(including my registry with regclean)and find no trace of it anywhere else.its not a big problem,just an annoying nuisance that i would like to be rid of.any help would be appreciated,thanks

 

sorry,i should have mentioned i tried that very thing yesterday with no sucess at all,i didnt have norton anti-virus,only norton utilities.im running windows98 SE if thats of any importance in this matter.

 

well,i thought i had it solved,but somehow it didnt work.i went to control panel,chose desktop themes,and found where you change icons.i followed instructions exactly,chose the default recycle bin,clicked apply,but it didnt change!i really dont understand why,any other suggestions,and thanks for the replies so far

Have you tried manually uninstalling Norton? Here's a link for manual uninstall direction.

i looked through my registry but could not find the key.it is possible i missed it,because i dont know much about editing registry so im alittle paranoid messing with it,but i dont think its there.whats weird is that norton seems to be completely uninstalled except for the recycle bin icon

Does it have just that text, or is it a different icon, or both?

It's easy to change the title of the icon if that's all that's hanging on. It SHOULD be easy to change the icon, too.

But is there something about the way the Recycle Bin BEHAVES that's left over from Norton? If so, specify, please.

 

ok,ive made progress.i got the icon back to default for recycle bin,so now i need to know how to rename the icon because it still says"norton protected recycle bin".its no longer effecting the way my recycle bin behaves,so i think once i can rename it the problem will be solved,just need someone to tell me how you rename it,thanks

 

Did you try righ-clicking the Recycle Bin, choose Properties, and change it's title back to Recycle Bin there? That should be all you need to do IIRC.

 

when i right click properties on the recycle bin,i see no option to rename.all it says on the top of the tab is "global"and "drive C",underneath that only option i see listed is maximum size of recycle bin.

Sorry I dropped out on ya after I said it was easy to change the name. Little life to take care of, ya know?I knew you had to patch the reg a tad to get it. I was going to give you the Annoyances fix, anyway, so I'm glad you got it.
