Not a "real problem" but how do I keep programs from loading on boot?

After a cold boot I have LOTS of processes loaded, including some, I suspect, for QuickTime and SonyVaioAgent (since their icons are in my systray even though I literally NEVER use the programs.)

Can someone tell me where to go on my PC to remove non-essential files from the list of those which load at bootup?

Go Start, then to Run and type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the space to the right of run and hit enter. Then click on the Startup tab. Uncheck the ones that you do not want.

Very Important Note: While it can be tempting to "disable" many items in there; Use caution, especially when disabling "unknown" processes; as many of these are considered necessary in order for Windows and certain programs to run properly.

Also check out these sites to discover more about this subject:
Start-up applications do you really need all of them?

Many of these programs and processes in the Startup are "abbreviated." Therefore try these two sites Task List or Sysinfo as well; in order to get more info on what’s actually running.

The freeware program called Startup Control Panel could be useful as well; in order to very easily disable programs that are set to run automatically at start-up.

    Good Luck
