    Trying to help my sister connect wireless, not sure where we are going wrong.
    She has a Medion laptop running Vista, Virgin cable broadband and now got a Netgear WGR614v7 wireless, which we are trying to set-up.
    We have used the set-up wizard to install the Netgear and it said successful, it shows connected icon but when try to go on the internet says 'Server not found', tried doing a network diagnostics and it gives the message 'cannot communicate with Primary DNS sever(4.2.2.0), network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not respond'. Could it be anything to do with the SSID configuration and if so what have we done wrong?

    Did you go through the router configuration? setup the wan connection on it, etc?? Then what is the IP your laptop is getting form the router?
    Do an ipconfig /all and post plz.

    Or connect the laptop back to the broadband do an ipconfig /renew
    Then ipconfig /all & write all this down.. ip, dns, gate, etc.
    Plug the router back in & go to it (usually 192.168.1.1 or 0.1)
    Plug those numbers in the dns, etc on the WAN config.
    Then try to connect wirelessly again and see what happens

    The WGR614 is a wireless G router that you should have no trouble using.

    Firstly is your laptop using windows to run its wirfi or proprietary software?

    you will see icons for this in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Click on these to find out if you can view available wireless networks. It will also tell you which software you are using.

    Whichever you are certainly looking in the wrong place for the Netgear.

    The normal netgear controlpage is 192.168.0.1,
    type into the internet explorer addressbar
    http://192.168.0.1
    Accept even without a certificate
    user=admin
    password=password

    Next type into the runbox
    services.msc

    post the status of

    'wireless zero configuration'

    Start it up if necessary to use windows.

    Having same connectivity issue. Have ATT$T DSL w/ 2WIRE Wireless Router connected to Windows 98(Slap me if you would like), installed Netgear WG311 Wireless PC Card on another XP Machine. Everything worked fine at first.....Suddenly lost drivers to wireless card and comm ports after applying wireless 0 in services manually. Reinstalled card connects but only at 1 Mbps. Can't ipconfig /renew. Can't connect to internet

    Please start your own thread giving proper details of your equipment and problem.

    You will get little help trying to add on to an existing old one.
