While I was trying to copy pictures off my digital camera to my C: drive I got this message and I get it a lot:

Cannot Copy 100_2468: There is not enough free memory. Quit one or more
    programs and then try again.

Here is what I have running on the task bar:
    incredimail
UVC universal village (appointment date thing)
    Sygate personal firewall
    Anti virus scheduler
    cyber patrol

So I tried closing all of them...and I still get that message.

Also, I can't get rid of a little icon/program called "safely remove programs" on the task bar ! Argh!

    What should I do?

It would be helpful if you gave your computer specs, such as what OS you're running, and how much physical RAM you have installed. Your problem could range from too little RAM to some sort of malware causing issues, but it's hard to make suggestions without knowing more about what you have.

Ok, specs...if this isn't enough info or something's missing, let me know:

    Windows XP Home edition
    256 Megaram
    MS Windows Ver 5.1 SVC Pack 2 1981-2001 c
    Phisical memory available 228,848 kb
    Processor Athlon XP 1800+

256 megs of ram is a joke with WinXP. You should upgrade in any case.

Is there a special software you use with your camera to copy the pics? Check all possible settings that refer to memory use.

Thank you we'll look into upgrading...on the pictures uploading, there is special software but I always use Explore on the start menu......

???? What about the "safely remove programs" icon stuck on the lower right hand side of the task bar near the date? How do I get rid of it? Properties say it is "USB Mass Storage Device?" What the heck is that?

If you don't have an external HD or thumb drive connected, it could be referring to your printer or camera. You can get rid of it, but theres no harm in leaving it there.

As far as 256 MB of RAM. Thats fine for XP. Any less and you would have problems, and an upgrade may very well solve your problem, but to say that 256 with XP is a joke is wrong. Sure it's not great, and if you were running multiple instances of Photoshop while doing six other things, then it would be a joke. But for just unloading photos from a camera, I'd venture to say there is a problem beyond just the amount of RAM.
