Not Enough Memory? But there is 50% available???

    I am working on a 98 Compaq Presario.

    I got it with 0 memory available.

    I dumped a bunch of useless stuff... and about 50% of the Memory is still available.

    However, during boot up it keeps showing that certain programs won't boot because there isn't enough memory available.

    I cleaned the disks, defragged and all that good stuff.

    Any thoughts or ideas?
