heres a link so u can see my pcs hardware

No im sorry to say i just have the vista ultimate full with both x32 and x64 dvds :( before i went out and paid for it i read up about the different versions and i thought the full version rather than the upgrade was the safest way to go for a stable and long lasting pc. i looked and looked on the packard bell website but ive never saw that page  if i did i might of gone that way.

When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

You're welcome to try that. I'm not certain that PMing allows attachments.
If that doesn't work send it email joellind@excite.com.
I'll look it over; try to locate your drivers and then post the results.

I installed Vistax64 last night and this is some of the things i can see if i go into device manager..
Right below network devices it says other devices and thats open with 3 dropped down. The 1st says PCI Modem and if i click on the properties it says Location PCI Bus2. device0 function 0. Below it says the drivers are not installed (code 28) the other 2 says unknown device, If i click on the properties it says Location: on microsoft ACPI-Compliant system and below it says the driver is not installed. If i click on the last one on the properties it says Location: Port_#0003.Hub_0006. Below it says the driver is not installed. I tried but the sound drivers but they didnt work for me so ive not got any sound at the moment. :( Ive noticed im still running at 3326mb and not the 4 gb ive got installed is that normal, I thought because it was x64 it would run at 4 gb. I had a rough list of drivers i needed to get for x64 and i think we forgot about the bio x64 update. But let me say the pc is working good, No crashes pauses or anything if it wasnt for that what ive said i wouldnt of noticed anything wrong :)

    OK
First, the BIOS manufacturer suggests that you use this service to upgrade your BIOS:
    http://www.esupport.com/biosagent/in...m?refererid=40

Next, the modem is listed as a "Smart Link 56K" in your Everest report.
DriversGuide.com seems to be having difficulty this morning (I keep getting a Database error), but I did find a llink to the driver package on another site:
    http://asia.giga-byte.com/FileList/Driver/nb_driver_smartlink_nb.zip
(This is an intel affiliate site.)

You sound issues and the other "unknown devices" are quite possibly related to the missing modem driver, so let's start there.

Thanks for the links!! the 1st one is undergoing a major site over haul and it says to check back in a few hours, I will do that :) and i just grabbed the second link, NICE ONE :-D

I still havent got the 1st one yet but i will grab it as soon as the site comes back on, the second im sorry to say hasnt changed anything in the device manager. :(

Is the modem a card or is it built into the motherboard?
If it is a card, remove it and see if all three of your errors in the device manager go away.
If they do then, we can be assured that they are all related to the modem.
While the modem is out, check it to see if it has any identifying markings (I'm wondering if somehow you have a different modem than the one that Everest indicated - not much of a chance I admit, but better to be sure than continue to chase after the wrong driver)

  27. Not-Compat

    Not-Compat Private E-2

Ive just opened it up and taken a good look inside, from what i can see is its built in to the motherboard. there is a card in there with just one input, its a normal phone line input that i didnt even know i had on here but i havent been using that ive been using the rj45 input on the back which is built in to the motherboard. do u think we have mixed the two up.

  28. Not-Compat

I forgot to say as well when i first start up i get a new hardware found window pop up and it asks if i want to search for driver.

  29. joelsz

    joelsz First Sergeant

You can safely remove the modem card.
If there is a modem (telephone) jack attached to the motherboard, that is most likely the one you installed the drivers to.
Once you have removed the card you will likely lose the new hardware notification on boot up and also the errors in your device manager.

No nothing is attached to it, its not being used. i didnt know it was there  im using a rj45 mainly because ive a xbox 360 and im using a router which is rj45 so i just plug it in the rj45 input on the back of my pc. i didnt see i had another one right at the bottom by my tuner card  Thanks Again joelsz ill try this now. i still havent been able to get the bio update do u know of any other sites to get it from?

  31. Not-Compat

    Not-Compat Private E-2

I just pulled the card out of my pc like u advised and when i look in the device manager it shows 2 unknown devices, the modem one has gone though:). and when i start up i get a new hardware window open i search and its searches for Unidentified Device but doesnt find one.

  32. Not-Compat

The found new hardware just finished scanning again but this time its said its found the software for the device but encountered a error while attempting to install it. the hardware is: USB-Infrared Adapter. do u know what that is.

  33. Not-Compat

    Not-Compat Private E-2

Ive restarted my pc after the failed update and now there is only one Unknown Device in the Device Manager and the new hardware window doesnt come up anymore on startup :-D what do u think that last Unkown Device have u any thoughts on it. now its just that and the x64 bio oh and sound ( correct me if im wrong). ive just uninstalled the sound drivers and on startup vista found me the right ones but its still the same, still no sound:( i read on the microsoft support website that if u install the xp drivers then install the vista drivers after it works, do u think that might work.

    *Edited*

The last Unkown Driver in the Device Managent says the Location is Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System.

IrAs are sensors that allow you to wirelessly communicate with certain devices (PDAs, cellphones and the like).

Does your Device Manager list an active modem now?

If I understand correctly the only issue we still have to correct is your sound. (The unknown device is possibly connected to that problem.)

First, check to make sure your Windows Audio Service is started.
You'll find it by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Component Services>Services (local)
    http://joelkilgore.com/audioservice.jpg
(this is a screenshot of XP. Vista may look a little different.)

Next check your Sounds and Audio Devices also in your control panel.
Make sure your Sound Playback Default Device is set to
"Intel 82801GB(M) ICH7" or "Intel High Definition Audio"
    (same thing - different names)
    http://joelkilgore.com/audioplayback.jpg

and under "Volume" nothing is muted.

Let me know what you find.

I just checked everything u said. first of all i found the services (local) folder and looked for Windows Audio and checked that it was turned on i found them and they are both turned on (there was 2):) they both say Started Automatic. then i went into my sounds and checked that the settings was right but the thing is there is no settings, under playback it says no Audio Devices are installed ( it says the same thing in the tray icon when i put the mouse on it and it has a x on it). another thing i wanted to ask was why my pc hasnt got the full 4 gd of ram, i thought x64 would be able to use it. is that because of the bio not being updated or is it another driver, thats why i was asking about the bio, i thought it was because of that. And THANKS Again Joelzs for spending all the time doing all this for me ok mate!!

I'm no expert on RAM, but I recall another thread where it was explained that 4Gb would show as only 3.something because of the system using the rest. Hopefully someone who is better versed in this than I will jump in and explain it better.

Your sound is HD and (as you might find looking through some of the other threads) HD audio has been giving lots of people fits. From what you said I think your problem might be that the UAA driver hasn't loaded properly and is showing up as your "unknown PCI device".
According to a white paper I read from MS
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/uaa.mspx
Vista x64 has the UAA already in it so you shouldn't have to download it seperately.
Try uninstalling the Unknown Device in your Device Manager and reboot. This should allow Vista to install the UAA and hopefully get your sound working..

Im thinking of buying a Auzentech X-fi Prelude 7.1, ive been reading about how good there support is for x64. sorry to sound dumb but all sound cards are compatable arent they? i need sound because i use music production programs, thats why i wanted to have a x64, less of a strain on my pc when im using lots of programs at the same time:) if i install vista 32 bit what would i have to do so i get sound out my pc is it going to be the same? im going to buy a new card but its finding one thats x64 compatible.
