I live above a bar which consists of two buildings that are attached. The dividing wall is in place still. The owner has wireless running throughout the first floor, the modem is in the jukebox. I am trying to figure out a way to get the signal to the second floor. I have heard of several different methods, but I need one that will allow everyone on the second floor to pick-up the signal. I know that I can hard wire it up through the ceiling to the second floor and set up a router up there at ceiling level, but if I am not mistaken that would halve the signal..I need to try not to steal any from the first floor. Is there any way to do it wireless? There is a computer in the back room for DJ'ing and it has a router with antennae that points straight up to my room, but I still only get one bar..essentially nothing. I am curious as to whether or not it would be better to place a router directly above the one downstairs to see if it would boost the signal. As you can tell from reading this I am lost, other than hard wiring it. The way it is setup I cannot set a splitter at the top of the stairs because there is a metal door that would stop the signal.

So, in short, modem is in jukebox on first floor, concrete and steel between floors, need to get signal on second floor..right now getting nothing I can work with. I can go through the ceiling to the second floor if necessary. I am thinking that bouncing along with splitters is going to diminish the signal to a point where it is still to low of a signal to use. No help from the carrier of course. An antennae was also thought of..if we could wire an antennae on the roof of the building from the modem wouldn't that cause the signal to go downwards and therefore give full strength equally? To my understanding the signal runs sideways and down, not up. I am definitely looking for a way to do this without losing any signal strength..there would be no need for anyone to directly connect, it would all wireless.

I appreciate any ideas, keep in mind it has to be wireless upstairs as well due to a few users. So, anything that can get from the modem in the jukebox to an antennae on the second floor would be great.rolleyes

Do the Bar owner support this "Sharing"?

Definitely, she currently allows us to sit in her back room, assuming there are no parties or anything going on that we would disrupt by being there. She is completely open to whatever it takes to get the signal upstairs. Worst case scenario we would have to drill a hole through the ceiling to get to an optimum place to put a router. She is definitely not worried about us setting it up, the "stealing" I mentioned was meaning I did not want to have the signal decrease too much after set-up. If it is halved that would be acceptable. She is running plenty of speed to split, but we are trying to avoid doing that. It is only used for an online jukebox right now (not counting we who come downstairs to tap in)...100Mbs is what she is running if I am not mistaken. Thanks for the question, I did not think to mention that it was all legitimate. Did not cross my mind, but I guess it should have after some of the requests I have seen on here. Ready for help now please!!

Apologies for my impatience but I really need an answer to this and I tend to rely on this sites opinions over all others. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.
