Not registering the full 222 memory

My husband wanted me to ask why his computer is only registering 222 instead of 256. He is running on a HP Pavillian ze4900 laptop.

 

I could be mistaken, but if it is RAM it is probably being used. If it is system memory, again, it is probably being used. Where is he getting the information from?

 

The rest is being used by the on-board video.

 

I am learning here so, is that with laptops only or is that universal with all types of computers?

 

It's any computer with built-in (onboard) video.

It shares the system RAM, and in the authors' case it's using 32 MB.

 

He got the system information through Direct X digonastic. He said that it is the total amount of ram that is showing.

 

That doesn't change the previous reply, you have 256 MB of RAM that is shared with your onboard video which is using 32 MB.

When you use a dedicated video card, it contains it's own memory and doesn't use system memory, only onboard does.

Just an FYI, you can't add a dedicated video card to laptops, you can always increase your RAM though. Good luck.
