Just got new pc with Win 7. When I'm logging on I'm receiving the message shown in the attaxhed jpg "Screenshot 1".

When I click on it I receive the message shown in the jpg "Screenshot 2" (attached).

I'm also getting the message shown in "Screenshot 3".

What are these messages telling me?

    What should I be doing?:confused

I have not seen this with Windows 7 but it seems clear that the messages pertain to choosing a default search provider for Internet Explorer and, per your third screen shot, telling Windows whether to prevent programs from asking to change search providers. Once you do that, I think the messages will stop appearing.

Check Add/Remove programs for any toolbars and uninstall the ones you don't think you want. Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features.

I can't do a lot of searching right now. But the third screenshot looks like it says something about Spigot Inc. program trying to change the default search engine. A quick search doesn't make it clear if that is malware or just a toolbar.

Decide what search you want to use and select it in shot #3. Then go back to shot #2 and uncheck "notify" if you don't want to see the popups.

    Thanks!

On my machine it's Start>Control Panel>Programs. I can't find anything to do with toolbars.

I've followed what you said and the problem appears to have gone away. Thanks!

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

And, be wary of installing anything (programs, etc.) without studying the EULAs and/or installation dialogs - in many cases, these attempted changes to default search engines are introduced by "fine print"-type check boxes that may go unnoticed. Most are relatively harmless, but an occasional nasty could slip in.
