    Hi,

A few weeks ago my mouse started processing things like I had double clicked when I actually only single click. It is not everytime... but it is quite often.

    Examples

    - I click once on the "delete button" in outlook express and it processes two seperate times... deleting the email desired, plus the next one in the list.

    - playing Free Cell card came I click on a card to highlight it, and it processes as a double click (moving it up to the top instead of just highlighting.)

    - clicking once on the back button in firefox, two clicks are processed and I am presented two windows back.

What should I search on in this forum to find info? I tried one search but came up with dozens of things not really related.

    thanks very much!!

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

If your mouse only messes up some of the time, I would suspect a bad mouse. You might be able to clean it, I would just get a new one.

You can also change the double click response speed in Control Panel, It's in Printers/other hardware. Hope that helps. Since it just started I would think it's more a hardware problem as stated above. A good mouse goes a long way towards sane computing.

Its true that mice are not that expensive unless your a gamer, but I am also very inquisitive and adventurous if not downright a MR. Fixit. If your the same why not open the sucker up? Get yourself a small can of contact cleaner from Radio Shack (its useful for cleaning all kinds of metal contacts) and spray them lightly and work them to clear any oxidation and then maybe a drop of silicone near the moving parts but not on the metal conntacts if you can help it. Try not to let any of the parts come out from their mounting places even if you have to spray, put it back together, clcik a bunck of times, then reopen to see whats up.
