I just realized my Macafee Security Center subscription ends today. WE had the one for three computers. My daughter, her husband and me. They will not be renewing until Oct 1. I am not sure what to do. I cannot afford to pay for the renewal. I seem to have bad luck with viruses and spyware! Are there any free programs out there that I can download tonight at midnight when my subs ends? I have used a few in the past and ended up with a computer filled with Trojans. I am on many social websites.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or are there any inexpensive programs that are good, Macafee wants 40 just for the anti- virus without a firewall or any other programs.

Thanks. I have another challenge but it is a software/hardware issue so I will ask where to post it after I finish with this issue, it is on my old computer that I had to shut down, there was no way to debugg it.

    Thanks
    Raven:)

Plenty of people here more than willing to help and give references to programs.
Don't worry, you are at the right place.

Thank you. I removed it from the add and remove programs, is that going to be a problem. Do I still need to run the link you sent to me? Thanks, I have used the malware section and have all tools downloaded on this new computer. My old computer we could not fix, I did not know how to reformat it and partitioned it and totally messed it up... that is what my next question is going to be once I get this computer working right. I want to give the old computer to my little boy.
I updated FF and now all it does is crash. I set it back a few updates and it is still crashing, it is now worse then IE!
I am going to read through the site more tomorrow and figure out what goes where.
Again, thanks for all of you assistance.

Yes, you should still run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool before you try to install which ever anti-virus program you chose. Other wise you may be prevented from installing the new anti-virus.

Sorry for double post, time limit got me first.
You should also run: http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html after running the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool and before installing the new anti-virus package.

Make sure you scan the registry for errors. If it finds, any tell CCleaner to fix the errors and then scan again. Keep doing that until it tells you there are no errors.
