I've recently developed a problem with both IE and Firefox. Each time I try and download something from the web it throws up an error message - in IE it says "this file contained a virus and was deleted", and in Firefox it calls an Error Message. The error messages are being called from the browser, not from my anti-virus (AVG Free).

This applies to everything - I use online project management software and it won't let me download shared documents. I can't download documents from websites. I can't download torrent files either.

before realising it applied to both IE and Firefox I thought it might be an IE10 problem, I rolled it back to IE9 and it hasn't changed. I then thought it might be malware, and MalwareBytes found some objects which it removed - but the problem persists. It did seem that the problem improved immediately after I ran MalwareBytes but it's now back. Does that mean that I need to undertake more malware removal options?

anyway, let me know where this should go. I've trawled the net trying to find info on this browser problem and can't find anything.

 

In some cases resilient malware will respawn after apparently being removed, as the cleaner is not getting some part of it. I would suggest going to:

I've worked through the READ ME FIRST section now and posted all of the relevant logs - I should really have done that first! I've now had a reply over there from Chaslang and I'll work through his instructions.

workaround is to rename c:/program file/windows defender to something else.

for example, rename "c:\program files\Windows Defender" folder to "fake windows defender" and you can download files again.

Need someone smarter than me to tell you how to fix it..
