I am using Acer Aspire Notebook Model D150. I suddenly lost the volume sound and the volume icon has disappeared from the right hand bottom tray.

Also, all icons on desktop are stretched width-wise and the monitor display is also stretched width-wise.

I made some searches and found my Realtek Hi Definition Audio driver was corrupt or missing, so I followed these steps (on one of your threads http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=183547) from
imadork8317 Private E-2, and the result is that my notebook log-in page freezes as start up and I can use the notebook. What do I do now? Any help will be appreciated.

Finally, when searching how to post a new thread, I have successfully followed all the steps except: Finally, before you click on the "Submit New Thread" button look for the Thread Subscription drop down box and select instant email notification so that you can be notified as soon as you get a response.. Perhaps Major Attitude, Co-owner of this site can clarify more clearly, where to find this drop down box. I have searched all over and can't find it. Why do you guys make it so difficult to post a thread.

    This is what I followed:

I had this same problem try the following solution

    Go to Start

    Click Run

    Type regedit

    go to the following location

    \hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

delete any values that have upperfilters or lowerfilters

    restart

    Hi

Glad you solved your aduio issue, yes the upper lower filters do cause alot of issues at times, mainly due to installing or uninstalling applicationts that use those filters.

As to the creating a new thread, I replied to your Welcome Centre thread on that issue.

In reply to DavidGP's message to me, whatever gave you the idea that I have solved this problem. "Problem Solved" was quoted from Imadork's message on y our website that sort of pushed me to follow his suggestion as to how to overcome my problem, which has now landed me in a sorry state.

So, if you have any solutions for my problem, do please let me know, thanks.

By the way a friend suggested I start my notebook in SAFE MODE, go to SYSTEM RESTORE and restore it to an earlier date. DO YOU THINK THAT WILL WORK? AFTER LEARNING A LESSON FOLLOWING "IMADORK", I'M WARY OF TAKING ANY STEPS WITHOUT GUIDANCE FROM EXPERTS LIKE YOU.

    Hi

Yes your friends suggestion is a good one as that will at least get you back to a point before you followed the other information.

But lets try this first as the Upper and Lower filters would only cause an application that may use a CD/DVD burner to not function and to cure that you can re-install the faulting application (eg. NERO, ROXIO etc)

As your Audio is not working then what we need to do is install the Audio driver from ACER for your model PC, and the drivers are below, do install them in the order mentioned. I will do this for the two Windows versions that ACER support for your model netbook, I have listed the 32bit versions of drivers, but if your Windows version is 64bit then do mention this and do not install the below drivers.

Then check out if your audio is working or not, if not then open up Services (can be found in Control Panel > Administrative tools, or in Windows 7 by typing Services into the Start Search box) then look for Windows Audio and make sure its Started and Startup type is Automatic, then test sound.

Once the drivers are installed and the Windows Audio service info doesnt help you can try this HERE
