Notebook will not turn on

I’ve had a Sony Vaio Notebook for about 3 years. I’ve never really had a problem with it until a few days ago when it stopped turning on.

No lights, no sound, nothing…..

I thought that maybe there was an issue with the power cord but the battery is fully charged and it won’t turn on off of that either.

Sony tech support gave me the standard “advice” of unplugging and plugging the PC with and without the battery but that has not fixed the problem.

I read some posts in a forum on Sony’s web site saying that other Sony Notebooks experience this issue as a result of a problem with one of the memory slots.

Is there any way that I can find out what’s causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

May help.

I suggest you google for your make "Sony Vaio" and particular model, without anything else, added to get the maximum number of hits, then refine it by adding "will not turn on" to get specific. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

So what happens if you empty that memory slot?

Mimsy, I haven’t emptied that memory slot. I wanted to get an idea of what else could be wrong before I started taking stuff apart.

 

That makes perfect sense. Sorry, habit. Memory-installation trouble-shooting is what I do at work.
