my notebook is acting strange tonight. It went into standby (blinking power light) while i was using it and i could not wake it up. I held down the power button to do a hard reset and it turned off completely. when it didn't restart, i pressed the power button. the power light came on and the hard drive light came on, but the screen, hard drive, and fan remained off. I tried unplugging the battery and plugging it back in. it booted normally. about 10 minutes later it went alseep again. the battery trick didn't work the second time. I removed the batter and tried to start it with just ac. when i pressed the power button, it would light up momentarily and then turn back off. I waited an hour and tried again and it worked. for about 20 minutes. this time i just tried rebooting about 5 times and the 5th time it worked. so here i am... waiting for it to turn off again. what now?

You are right to post this in hardware.
Get your AC adapter and battery checked first.
Also make sure the laptop is not shutting down through overheating, get it internally cleaned.

HJT logs must be saved to a text file and attached, not inline. Not that any software would be the cause of this.

ok, i opened and cleaned it. I also tried removing all peripherals, ram, battery, hard drive, etc. and it still won't turn on.

if i try to turn it on with either just the battery or just the ac power, the powerlight comes on and turns off right away.

if i have both the battery and the ac plugged in, the power and hard drive light turn on and stay on and nothing else happens.

i can hold down the power button for about 5 secs to turn it off.
