    Welcome to the forum:)

There is no difference, people from the UK use the word laptop more than people from the US 'I call everything a laptop'. Some manufacturers will name smaller laptops as notebooks especially in the US but I call those netbooks.

Don't confuse a netbook with a notebook. A netbook does not have an optical drive.
I own one laptop/notebook and 3 netbooks. To watch or burn a DVD from the netbooks, I have to attach an external DVD burner (I chose portable because it is much smaller in size) with a Y-connector that uses the power from 2 USB ports.

Not True a lot of the newer laptops don't have optical drives, quick example-

There is no formal naming convention other than what the manufacturer says it is, a netbook just a laptop with a lot less of everything, only when considering the entire machine does it become obvious which category it fits into.

Both are the same. Now if you asked what is the difference between a netbook and Laptop/notebook, we would tell you that a netbook uses a slower CPU, slower GPU, smaller form factor, used mostly for those that may want something small to carry with them while on the go, has a little longer battery life, but can do everything that a Laptop/Notebook can, by allowing you to surf the web, write emails, documents, spreadsheets, etc..

Cost is the main factor also, but with decent laptops now going for under $300, with 4GB RAM, 320GB Hard Drives, decent base CPU's & GPU's, you can have a good system for daily use.

Actually Rikky, that link you posted would be compared to a Mac Air, which is what that Samsung is marketed towards, for those who cannot afford the Air, but want something with the thin form factor, and long battery life.

A copy of the manual @ this link. You don't have to download it just go thru the table of contents and click the page. It basically says move the release lever and pull the battery. Snap the new one in. See pages 38 and 39.

Even so. There are gaming laptops out there that have dual GPUs and no optical drive.

So that is definitely not a defining trait of a netbook.
