Notepad not found one way, there another

If I try to open Notepad directly using its Start shortcut (pointing to C:\Windows\Notepad.exe), it opens fine. I can open files by doing a File > Open within Notepad. However if I attempt to double-click any file that uses Notepad (like a .txt), it gives me this error:

Windows cannot find 'C:\filemame\etc.etc.. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

So it looks like Windows can't find Notepad through file association, but has no problem opening the program itself.

Ok, first, open any folder. Next, click on the tools menu and select folder options. Go to the file types tab. Find TXT under the extentions list (they are in alphabetical order). Click the change button. Find notepad in the list, select it. If it isn't in the list, click browse and find the executable. Click ok. Click close. X out of the folder you were in. Try opening a text file again.

 

NotePad is a Wimp

And after you have got the opening bit sorted out get hold of Notetab Lite (free), and after installation configure it to open txts and all other like files. Then you will never ever have to use that nasty little M$ piece of cheapness ever again.
