Nothing in taskbar and No network connections - cant backup data

I have 3 huge problems
I have recently fixed my computer after a blue screen of death (i think corrupt ntfs.sys file).
I did this my recovery console and windows install (without formatting)

I am tryin to keep my data so can you help?
My problems are:
No network connections in the folder, at all, with error message
Nothing shows up in the taskbar when I open things and also wont let me open my own programs (however will let me open microsoft programs)
Cannnot copy and paste OR do a backup at all of my data.

I dont mind formatting the drive but I would really like to get my data off.

I have a windows XP machine, ask if you need anymore info, ill be online most of the day

hmmm, it was on selective startup....i didnt learn much about this in my A+ exam.... does it matter? i think i will change it to normal start up cos that loads all windows drivers and stuff

 

thank you very much the start up program...theres kinda one thing i forgot to mention..it a laptop that has the problem on it and its a sata drive connector 2.5"....

but a friend said to back up my data using the command prompt, im doin it now, it keep stopping and sayin access denied which is annoying...
