    Hallo

I have a P4 desktop machine with SD 512 RAM and SD128RAM installed, OS XP. I took out the ram and replaced it whilst cleaning the inside of the computer. When I fired it up, the green light on the monitor comes on, then changes to orange. The lights on the keyboard flash on and then go of, Although the CPU is running, nothing appears on the monitor and the keyboard is dead. I have checked my cables, and made sure the ram has been clicked in properly. Any idea what the problem could be?

As much system info as you can will be a great help.

Does it have a Video Card or is it IGP?

Are you getting any BIOS beeps and if so how many?

    Hi

    Thanks for replying.

It is a P4 Titan Series motherboard, GA-8IDML series, Intel 845 AGPset. The power and the reset will no longer switch the computer off, I have to turn off the power. I am getting no beeps, maybe the speakers are not registering the computer sounds, but they are on.

Okay your product and manual is here:

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=1347

I would remove the CMOS Battery for 30 secs and then replace, this will reset your BIOS. Remove the RAM again and then replace it. Dont turn it on yet.

On page 17 of the manual make sure you can see that the 2 Jumpers (little green bits of plastic) are still on the motherboard, i.e C IR & O USB_VS.

On page 20 you will see where O should be set to (your USB).

You may want to (make sure it is unplugged from the power) unplug everything and replug it back into the mobo (one thing at a time) to ensure you are getting good connections. Then finally try and reboot and listen for BIOS beeps.

I took out the battery and replaced it. The green O jumper is there, but nothing on C, and I did not find anything like that lying loose when I opened the case. I forgot to add, the light for the CD rom comes on, but nothing happens when I press the eject button. No light comes on the CD writer at all.

There is still no beep when I fire it up.

Okay have you pulled each plug from the motherboard and then plugged it back in?

    Hi

Yes, I unplugged and put everything back into the motherboard, took out and replaced the RAM and battery, as well as all cables. I am not getting any beeps.
