I have XP Pro, SP2 and most of the updates :)D) and would like to know if there is an upper limit to the size of the notification area, or the number of icons that appear in it.

I appear to have reached the limit of about 19 icons. 20, I guess if you count TclockEx, I hate the option of hiding inactive icons as the tooing and frowing of the icons when you click on the left arrow or right arrow is just a PITA to me.

I know MG' ers will say why the hell do you have so many icons. That is how I have my PC setup at present. Just want to know the answer, not change the way my PC is setup. Bazza

TimW. Don't really want to add another toolbar,:p if I can get out of it.
Anyone know the limits of a single toolbar?

Other wise I will do as you suggest. Bazza

    Bazza,

Not sure about the limit, but have you thought of pulling the tool bar up and making it twice as high? That should give more room for icons. Not sure that would be any better or different that adding a tool bar, but just a suggestion.

    Have a good day,

Well I got bored so decided to test...

As far as I can tell there is no limit, once you reach a certain amount it just puts arrows in.

I normally have my taskbar 2 rows high anyway so they are easier to see.

I tested by using TaskSwitch xp to send as much stuff as I could be bothered with to the tray!

Bazza ...can't find anything on the limits ....would just click all to never hide/always show and see how full you can get it...:) Let us know when you hit the limit.

Oh, sure, Matt .....just spam your tray .....quick work!!

    Thanks guys.LOL. :D
20 appears to be my limit. :p
Will double the size, but don't really want to. Bazza

I have dual monitors both on 1280x1024 so having a double size bar doesn't really make much difference to the size of the workable area, and once you get used to it its actually pretty good. It shows the date and time nicer too lol

Thanks Matt. Best program to display Day, full Date and time in a single toolbar is TclockEx, IMHO. Don't know how it works on a double line toolbar, though.

Works in XP and W98SE from my experience, don't know about others.

Doesn't XP do that automatically when you resize the taskbar?

edit: Nevermind, yes it does, but it has to be really big to show it all. Or vertical, as I like to have mine.

TclockEx really works well in a single line toolbar. As I said I don't know how it works in other than a single line toolbar. As you said, I think XP has to be a triple line, if I remember rightly, to show all that TclockEx shows in a single line. Trust M$. :p Bazza

Well mine looks like a triple line in the image but it is only a double line.

2 'units' high (based on normal being 1 unit) displays 3 rows of icons in the notification area

Thanks Matt. Increased (doubled) the size of my toolbar.
Now have 3 rows of icons showing. 17 showing in rows of 6, 6 and 5.
BTW TclockEx works perfectly when I booted up this morning.
It still looks better than the M$ attempt, IMHO. Bazza

PS: TclockEx needed to be rebooted to work as it does in a single line toolbar.
Recommend to all to try TclockEx. Baz
