Novice lost in mad confusion!

I apologise if my questions seem simple to you but I am a novice when it comes to all this. I have 2 machines at home and seem to have made a lovely mess of both!

I started with the Read this First section on my PC. I followed the steps (quite well I thought). There were many viruses and beasties within the system which were successfully removed, however I am left with this DerBiz creature that will not go away. I can report only one problem which was that I could not connect to the internet in safe mode, however I ran the files in normal mode. It also appears that I still get a pop up menu at the bottom of the browser.

I am currently working through the "How to protect yourself from Malware" posting and downloading a firewall and AVG. I could go through all these downloads, however notice that there are warnings such as only run one AV - and I don't know if I already have one in the first lot of cleaners.

I also ran through the first section on my laptop and have made a real royal mess. I can connect to the internet but my Outlook Express and Internet Explorer don't seem to read the connection at all.

My plan is to work thourhg the "Protect yourself from Malware" - hope I don't download conflicting software but the warning on the Hijack This programme states it should be used by experts! Not me.

I would appreciate your feedback and advice.

Keep at it. Open internet explorer, select File menu. Make sure Work Offline does not have a check by it. Also, open a DOS window and type ping www.yahoo.com at the prompt. You should have a similar response as below

Windows NT/2000/XP based systems
Open a DOS window: Start > run > type cmd and press enter.

Open a DOS window: Start > run > type command and press enter.
