Now what?

I have windows xp, and its starting to go downhill. I havent heard anything good about vista. i have heard is memory hungry, its incompatible with most prgrams. I have two paint shop programs, 8 and 11. and also play games, such as sim city, microsoft office 2003. Are adjustments being made to vista so that it will be compatiable with all programs. Is there anything in the market, that will aid vista in using current programs.

usb ports, are starting to malfunction. cd/dvd doesnt want to work. pc wants to freeze up quite abit. and i do regular maintenance on it.

I also did a clean install two months ago.

Another question. I forgot to ask, I was trying to delete "INternet connection" program files. (these are the ones that are already on the pc when you purchase it, with a beacon as a icon.) then i got this message saying if i delete the files, other programs may not work. Is this just to get a person to leave that nonsense on the pc, or if i do delete it. Will it effect other programs.?

yes, i have cleaned it for melware. and there wasnt any. Also i notice, it likes to shift from windows xp view to the classic view. quite a bit. then other times, only part of it will shift to classic and the rest will stay xp.
