Hi! I've been here before and usually get good advice, hoping someone can help me with this.

Out of the blue (no major changes to computer except moving and reestablishing internet) we started getting this notice on boot:

NTDLR missing, press cntrl+alt+del to restart

We have tried booting from the windows XP disk which only leads us (in circles it seems) back to the original NTDLR notice. So I can't even get to a place where I can open the XP disk to access the repair options, reinstall XP or anything else. I can only access the initial startup and boot menus.
I don't have a way to make a floppy with the boot files, my only machine with a floppy drive is the one not working (a little oversight I'm gonna remedy after this..)

Any advice would be appreciated, this one has me stumped. Thanks in advance, Juno

If you have access to a healthy PC running the same version of XP that you have, you can copy the critical boot files to a floppy disk, then boot your PC into the recovery console and copy the files from the floppy to drive C: The files needed are NTDETECT.COM, NTDLR, and BOOT.INI. You can also put the floppy in, and boot to it, and your PC should start up. You should also run chkdsk (link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us)
You may also want to visit your hard drive makers web site to download and run their diagnostic tool....

Thanks I will try these things, although I'm going to have to find a friend with a floppy drive to make the disks for me, it seems. Hopefully, I can get it to boot from the floppy drive as the dvd/cd drive doesn't seem to be doing what it should do.

Once again, thanks for your time.
