    Ok I've been having this thing ever since I installed XP SP2. When booting up I get a screen right after the POST screen that gives me two options.....

    Windows XP Professional ( Bootscreen )
    Windows XP Professional

    Now if I select Windows XP Professional it boots up just fine, but if I chose Windows XP Professional ( Bootscreen ) I get an error stating that the NTFS.SYS file is either missing or corrupt. This started right after installing SP2 & I realized that Style XP wasn't working. I uninstalled Style XP & now I get this error screen.

    I have run every test that has been suggested by others with the same problems & near as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the HDD or any of the memory sticks. I also tried reinstalling Windose, but I still get the same error.

    So my question is............Is there a way to get the NTFS.SYS file other than to reformat? I mean I can easily do that, but if there is a way around it that would be sooo much better. I have everything backed up I try to do that everyday iffin I remember. hehe Any suggestions at all?

    try running a repair using the winxp cd. Boot up off the cd and choose the option for repair.

    Sorry man, I was incorrect in my discription. :rolleyes:

    I have already tried to Repair ( I said reinstall sorry ), but still the same thing happens. Everything goes the way it should throughout the Repair, I mean no issues come up while doing that. If I were to get the NTFS.SYS file from another machine running XP, could I just replace it? :)

    P.S.

    I think what has happened is when I chose to use the Custom Bootup screen threw Style XP it replaced the original file with one of thier own & now Windose is not recognizing it. I've been using Style XP for a long time without any problems until I installed SP2 & now I can't even reinstall Style XP.

    Your boot.ini file is usally on C:\ and hidden.

    Open it up,a nd see what exactly the (Bootscreen) entry points to.

    Inf ace, just copy and paste the contents of your boot.ini in a post.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (bootscreen)" /fastdetect /KERNEL=kernel1.exe
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    This is what I've found.

    Well you said the other one worked?

    So, delete this line:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (bootscreen)" /fastdetect /KERNEL=kernel1.exe

    Locate that file, delete it, and all should be good.
    kernel1.exe

    Make sure you leave no white space between the lines.

    So in the end, it looks like this:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    Keep in mind this file is usually read only, so you might have to remove that attribute before you can save it.
