I wonder if anyone has a solution to a drivers issue I've had since I replaced the motherboard and CPU on one of my old Windows 98 machines?

My camera drivers were working with no problems with the old motherboard but, since the new board was installed,I've got
the yellow circle exclamation point in Device Manager.
I've extracted all the required files from the Windows 98 CD,but I'm still left with the message:
The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device drivers. [Code 2]
It suggests updating the drivers to fix,but this has no effect.

In Device Manager I also notice that 'Microsoft Streaming Clock Proxy' in 'Sound, video and game controllers' also has
the yellow circle and an identical error mesage (i.e. The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device drivers. [Code 2])

Incidentally,my USB ports seem to be functioning perfectly with other devices.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?

    Thanks for the link.

Taking this advice from the link:
    RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, remove the following two lines of code in the C:\Autoexec.bat file by using a text editor, such as, Microsoft Windows Notepad. If your mouse does not work, you may want to use Notepad from one of the Windows installations that works properly.

I'm not sure if I'm opening the 'Autoexec.bat' file properly with Notepad.
When I use File>Open> C:\Autoexec.bat ,it opens in Notepad, but the file is empty. The file size is also shown as 0kb.
Is this to be expected? Should the Autoexec.bat file have some contents when opened with Notepad?
If I'm not doing anything wrong I was thinking that the lack of contents could be related to the problem?

I would think that means the cause listed in the article doesn't apply in your case.

Please post the make/model of old and new mobo.

Did you reinstall 98 after you replaced the mobo?

The motherboard that's currently in the computer was salvaged from an old Packard Bell machine.
The board is identical to the one on the following link.
    http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/880.htm

Unfortunately I don't have the old board, but it was from a machine manufactured by TIME COMPUTERS.It would have been built during 1999,and had a PIII 450 chip installed,if that info is of any use.

Windows 98 wasn't reinstalled after the new board was added.
The reason for adding the board was that the PSU blew and took the motherboard and CPU down with it.The hard drive was unaffected, and I assumed that there was no reason to make any changes to it.

    OK,I just reinstalled Windows.
When I went through the process of installing the the camera drivers,I initially had the message,'The device is working properly' in Device Manager, suggesting that everything was OK.
The yellow circle/exclamation point in Device Manager had also gone, but it had been replaced by a red cross or 'X'.
The camera wasn't operational even while Device Manager was claiming that it was.
There's a sad end to the story too because, when I next rebooted the machine, the original error returned, exactly as I described it in my first post.

The only issue I had while installing Windows was when it asked 'Do you want Setup to save your existing MSDOS and Windows system files for uninstall purposes?'
The recommended answer was 'yes',so that's what I chose, but I wasn't entirely sure if it was correct for my situation.

My only thought at this point is that the current board has USB 1.0, whereas the P3 board had USB 2.0

Maybe your camera drivers need 2.0 support and your other USB devices are happy with 1.0
