NTLDR Error

I just purchased a western digital hard drive for my computer, I formatted the drive but when I booted it I get a NTLDR Error, I use to have a windows OS on the previous drive, how do I get past this error message

 

Did you install the OS on the new drive.

 

no i tried to put it back in but it keeps giving me the drive blue box advertisment, and whether i want to boot from the cd or disk, if I leave it alone it eventually goes to NTLDR Missing Restrat Computer Crt-Alt-DLT, it won't boot without giving that error message

 

You want to boot from CD to install the OS on the hard drive. When you don't answer the prompt, it defaults to your hard drive and tries to boot the OS from the C: drive. Since there is no OS on the C: drive that is why you are getting the 'NTLDR' Missing error.

you may need windows XPs boot disks to boot your computer. just be sure and dl the appropriate floppies ... if you have an XP CD that has service pack 2 you will need to dl the sp2 floppies

 

well that worked at first now i can;t go through the installation fully it gives me could not read from selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware

I use Win 2000

 

What didn't work? Booting form Floppy and installing the OS or booting from the CD and installing the OS?

 

I'm assuming you got that blue screen where it installs all those drivers ... then it reboots ... when it reboots go into the BIOS and set the CD as first boot device .. save and exit .. and the install should continue
