    Hey guys, again.

I really need your help cause I aint getting any from our geeks in Sweden. :( I have both the "ATAPI-Incompatible" and "NTLDR is missing"-error and I really hope that you geeks can help me.

First I installed XP on my kids comp like I did many times before but all of a sudden the disc failed to copy some files to the system so I put the HDD in my other computer (as storage) and formated and re-installed XP without any error :) but when I put the HDD back to the kids comp I got the message ATAPI Incompatible, press F1 to resume and thats when I put all bootdevices on auto, and when i doubleclick auto so the comp choses the devices I get the NTLRD is missing, press ctrl+alt+del to reboot, and it's driving me crazy. :crybaby

I even took away all the cables and re-attached it cause I heard that it could be one of the reasons for an ATAPI-error, but that didnt do me any good, I even made a NTLDR-fixdisc @ http://tinyempire.com/notes/ntldrismissing.htm but that didnt do me much that either. :cry

Please guys, help me, I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking about paying for it.

Here you guys have my BIOS-setting so you can see if I managed to make any stupid moves, and please, help me out!

The main problem here is that drive is set up to work on your computer and not the kids computer. When XP is installed, it has a way of 'bonding' with the hardware. When this hardware is suddenly and completely changed, XP doesn't like it too much and tends to crash. It usually will error out with a BSOD, but errors of your type aren't that uncommon. However, now that Windows is physically on the drive, maybe you can try a repair install on the kids PC. Many times when an XP install fails to copy files, it's due to faulty memory. Before you try the repair install, download and run a bootable memory diagnostic. I like this one http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_Memory_Diagnostic_d3955.html It allows you to create either a bootable CD or floppy. When you boot to it, press "T" for the extended tests and run at least 3 or 4 passes. It will take some time so be patient. There are times when it may appear as though the test has frozen or locked up, it hasn't. If you just let it run, it will be fine. If errors pop up right away, there's no reason to let it run all the tests and you can power down and remove the faulty memory stick. Be sure to run the test on one memory stick at a time first. If they all pass individually, then you can run the tests with the individual sticks installed together in various configurations. Just because two identical memory sticks pass the tests individually, that doesn't mean they will run well when installed together. I have had a pair of brand new memory sticks installed on a PC and the XP install kept erroring; it wouldn't copy files during the blue screen part of the setup (with the yellow progress bar). So I ran the diagnostic. Each stick passed 100%. When installed together, the errors popped up almost immediately during the diagnostic test. And these were brand new! Anyway, try to vary the slots used also; and be sure to unplug the power cord each time before you start removing/installing memory sticks, and touch the power supply each time also to discharge any static that may have built up.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

    Thx dlb

I'm gonna try it as soon as possible and you guys will be the first to know how it went, but I guess I'll be back soon, very soon :D
